The next day we decided to venture out to the lower west side also known as lower Manhattan. We first got on to a ferry to go see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island which was previously a gateway for over 12 million immigrants to the US. The Statue of Liberty was actually a gift of friendship from the people of France and its now recognised as a symbol of freedom. Whilst on liberty island I came across a fresh lemonade stand called "Bills", normally I don't really like lemonade but I decided to try Bills because it looked good and let me tell you this was one of THE best lemonades I have EVER tasted so if you ever go to visit the Statue of Liberty be sure to taste Bills lemonade on Liberty Island (and it comes in a cool cup!). Afterwards we went to visit the 9/11 memorial and museum and for respect for the victims and their families I didn't take any pictures. It was a very moving and emotional experience.
The next day we decided to go Rockefeller Center, Central Park and The Met. I would recommend if you want to go to Rockefeller Center and beat the rush, go in the morning around 9 - 10 am. We went at 10 am and didn't even have to queue for tickets! Central Park was AMAZING. It's massive! We walked quite a lot of it, we saw the John Lennon Memorial (Strawberry Fields) and Belvedere Castle. After that we stopped off at The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) and I had my gossip girl moment on the Met steps!!! (I was definitely starstruck, can you even be starstruck for a museum?!). The Met was MASSIVE, so big we didn't even get to look at all of it. When I realised there was a rooftop that you could go up, I was straight there! It was so magical.
The following day our plan was to go to the Empire State Building and see Grand Central Station where I had my second gossip girl moment!!! (yknow when in the pilot serena returns to new york bags in hand). Our ticket for the Empire State gave us access for two entries on the same day so we went in the morning and then returned later to see the skyline at night.
And now it's finally coming to an end of my New York trip. The last day we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge in scorching mid-day heat (we didn't realise it was going to get that hot!), visited Wall Street and took a trip to Times Square in the night.
And that is the end of my post on New York. I apologise now for it being so long, but thank you all who stuck till the very end! I love New York so much, it is such an amazing place. If someone asked me if I would go back there, I would say yes in a heartbeat. I've always wanted to live in New York, it's a big expensive dream (I know) but you never know someday it might happen. Thanks again if you stuck with my long post and read all of it!
